Kaelin at One Week

Kaelin mad after his bath

On December 7th, Kaelin had his one week check up with his Pediatrician.  Kaelin's weight was already back up and past his birth weight.  So Dr. Ambrose gave the okay for Kaelin to use a pacifier if he needs it and said that Gerald and I no longer had to wake him at night to be feed.  Thank God!  Kaelin is hard to keep awake when he would rather be sleep.
He loves the pacifier but doesn't get how to use it just yet..it's a fight to keep it in his mouth

I Just can't get Enough

A letter to my Son

Dearest Kaelin,

When I first saw you, I instantly cried.  You were the most beautiful thing I ever laid my eyes on.  God created you perfect for me.  I could not believe that I had a part in creating something so wonderful.  As I cried, my first words to you was, “ hi Kaelin..I love you!”  I must have said I love you about 10 times, that was all I could really get out as the tears steadily rolled out my eyes.  As I held you in my arms for the first time, the feeling that came over me was nothing I have ever felt before, it was a proud and amazing feeling all in one.  God has truly blessed my life.  Everything I use to wonder and imagine about you, could never have compared to the day I actually met you.  You were better than what I could have ever imaged.  You were perfect!  God says in his word that he created us in His image.  Looking at you is proof that His word is true!  As I held you crying, your daddy came to hug us.  His arms around us, our first family hug was oh so wonderful!  God blessed me with an amazing King, and now a precious Prince.  I cannot see how life could get any better than this.

While I was holding you, you were so alert.  Our eyes connected, and the look you gave me, was like you knew you were in your mommy’s arms.  I loved you when before I even met you, but I fell in-love all over again the day I finally met you.  You were only about an hour old and you were lifting your little cone head up, trying to check out what was surrounding you.  As you tried staring around you, your eyes would slightly shake, for it was hard for you to focus.  I remember saying, “ look at him holding his head up already!”  I was clearly amazed.

There were many people waiting to meet you on your BIRTHday.  Of course your Nana, and grandma were there to welcome you when you first came out.  Papa was waiting off and on in the delivery room as well.  Your papa still had no clue what sex you would be, so he stayed out the room until your birth.  Not only because he did not know, but also because the labor probably would have made your poor papa sick..lol.  I was surprised your dad was able to handle my labor himself.  I just knew he was going to feel sick.  Boy was I wrong!  The waiting room was filled with people that could not wait to meet you.  They were your uncle Emmanuel, God dad, Great Grammy, Aunt TaNisha, Aunt T.J, Uncle Mike, Cousin Megan, Auntie Teresa and Will.  The first thing everyone commented on, including the hospital staff, was about your head full of hair.  Everyone was astonished about the full head of hair you had.  Your God dad was the first to notice that you had big hands.  Everyone agreed on how beautiful you are.  You brought a smile to everyone that entered the room.

My favorite memory from the day of delivery is when you were first put into my arms.  I waited almost 10 months for that moment, and dreamed about how it would actually be.  To finally be able to hold you in my arms was so surreal.  With all the emotions I felt, I mostly felt blessed to receive such a special gift from God.  Everything that I had experienced throughout the last 39 weeks..the five hour labor, the back pain, the stretch marks, the 28 pounds I gained, you kicking me at night, was all worth it!  I would not trade any of it for anything!

Kaelin, I have been waiting for you to be in my life forever!  I always dreamed of the day I would become a mommy.  You made that dream become a reality, and it is one of the most amazing feelings in the world.  I know as you grow, and get older, you will never remember the day you were born, however; I will!  I will never forget how those eyes connected with mine, and how you brought tears of joy to my eyes.  I promise you to always be the best mommy I can be.  By raising you in the word, teaching you right, showing you love, and always being there whenever you need me.  I am sure there will be many times you get mad at me, especially when I punish you.  Just know it will all be because I love you.  Everything I do in life, will always be for you.  Thank you for making me such a proud mommy!
I love you Kaelin, never forget that!

Welcome home Kaelin

Once we arrived home, I handed Gerald one of Kaelin's blankets to let our dogs smell.  Kaelin and I waited in the car while he went to let dogs smell, and get them to meet us outside.  Once Gerald, my mom and the dogs came outside, I got Kaelin and lowered him so that the dogs could see.  They were not worried about him, they were just excited we were home.  I know people get so wrapped up in the "pit bulls" are mean, and blah blah blah.  But our dogs are far from that.  We even had people telling us our dogs would get jealous and act up, blah blah blah.  We knew our dogs would be just fine.  Bossy proved that  our first day home.  It was so cute, I ad to snap a photo.  Kaelin had woke up out of his sleep, and started crying.  Bossy was laying on the floor, and had jumped out of her sleep startled.  It seemed like she was unsure at first what that loud noise was.  She jumped on the bed and slowly sniffed Kaelin's way.  She then paused, and laid by his side like she was his protector.  I watched with the greatest smile on my face.  It was just too cute!  To those wondering, no the dogs don't lay on the bed with us due to Kaelin.  No the dogs do not touch Kaelin, and no the dogs do not stay alone with him.  We are not crazy!
Bossy stayed next to Kaelin until he stopped crying

After giving birth, Gerald and I got no sleep until about 2:30 pm, and that was only for an hour.  As tired as we may have been, we did not really feel it until that night.  Once we moved rooms, it was about 2 am, and the nurses came to give Kaelin his first bath.  I think we tried sleeping for an hour and then another nurse came in for something.  I kind of got in trouble because it was time for me to feed Kaelin, but he would not wake up.  I tried everything to wake him up, but he would rather sleep.  So I let him sleep.  The nurse was not in agreement with me.  I let her try to wake Kaelin up, and I am sure she felt like a fool, for she had no luck as well.  She had me retry every hour.  Next thing I knew, it was already 9am, and Kaelin's pediatrician came to check in on him.  Thank God, He told me to not listen to that nurse, and let Kaelin sleep if he wanted, especially since it was his first day out the womb and due to his high stress level coming out, he may still be a tad dazed.  With all the test Kaelin had to do within the next 24 hours, he passed them all.  Gerald had went with Dr Ambrose (Kaelin's pediatrician) to circumcise him.  I did not go, but Gerald told me that Kaelin handled it pretty well.

Our first hospital visitors was TaNisha, she came real early and brought such touching cards for Gerald and I, along with a car seat toy for Kaelin.  Thank you TaNisha, when I read the cards, I said awwww!!  My dad stopped by after, and then Grammy.  The hospital does not allow visitors between two to four, and that is when we finally got some rest.  Right around four, Gerald's aunt Debbie came to visit, and then Greg.  Later that night, my mom stopped by for a long period of time, along with Brandy and Mike as well.  Brandy and Mike brought us some cool chocolate cigars, and some lollipops.  Thank you to you both!  My auntie Felicia came in with some flowers for us, Gerald's dad came, and later that night, my dad came and brought us dinner.  Thank you auntie Felicia and Daddy.  We had many visitors throughout the day, and we really appreciated all the love from everyone.

Saturday afternoon we were able to check out of the hospital.  I was ready to get home too, the hospital bed was not it, and I needed my own bed back in my life.
