Looking back through the month
Kaelin's 1st New Year Eve..Happy New Year |
My baby boy turned two months yesterday! He is growing too fast. Just two months ago, my son was seven and a
half pounds, and now he is about 12. I
must admit, as he grows, things to do with him become much more fun. Kaelin has always been alert since birth, but
now he stays awake for longer girths of time.
That gives me more time to play with him, and help my son explore the
things surrounding him.
After Kaelin’s five-week checkup, Dr. Andrews scolded Gerald and me, due to us allowing Kaelin to fall asleep on us. Trust me, it did not start that way. Around two weeks, Kaelin disliked sleeping alone, and would not sleep if he were not in one of our arms. It is funny, for I told Gerald a couple days before Kaelin’s checkup, that we had to break that habit, or it would only bite us in the end. Dr. Andrews agreed, and gave us some tips to break it, including me reading a book he referred. I am proud to say it took us three days to break Kaelin from that bad habit! He now will sleep alone through the night. It was not easy! The first night, Gerald and I took turns patting him to sleep while he screamed, and screamed. Kaelin did not like what we were doing to him. I felt so bad for him. He would sleep for about an hour and wake up screaming. While breaking the habit, I noticed my son despises sleeping on his back, unless he is at an incline. Which could be the reason he stopped sleeping on his own at two weeks. While Kaelin naps during the day, I put him on his tummy. I know, I know..babies are supposed to lie on there back these days, but he sleeps better on his tummy. I only do it during his nap, when I am around to frequently check on him. At night he sleeps in his bouncer, for that is the only way he will sleep on his back due to the incline. Sometimes you just have to do what works best for them.
Things I do not want to forget:
-Kaelin started trying to crack smiles in his sleep around four
weeks. I could tell his face muscles
were preparing, because he was doing it frequently in his sleep. At five weeks he gave me his first
smile! Now all I have to do is get him
to smile when I say smile. It will be
tough, I know. Kaelin is a tough cookie
when it comes to smiling.
-At five weeks, I was trying to put Kaelin on his tummy, and my cousin Megan had just walked through the front door. Kaelin wanted to see, so he propped his body up with his arms in a push up position. I was shocked when he did this! I told TaNisha who was sitting right next to him to look, she replied, “I told you Kaelin is buff!” It was funny; of course Kaelin’s arms did not even last longer than 10 seconds like that. They were shaky from the very start he propped up.
-Kaelin now spits up sometimes
-He has loved to stick out his tongue since birth, and now he sticks it out & blows bubbles with his spit
-There was three nights that Kaelin slept through the night until 10:30 am without waking up once. I had to check on him to make sure he was still breathing. After those three days, he went back to his regular schedule. Goes down at night around seven, wakes around 10:30 pm. I will change him, give him a dream feed, and then put him back down. Kaelin will then wake up around 5:30 & 8:30 am to be changed, and he goes right back to sleep until 10:30 am. 10:30 am is when Kaelin starts his day.
-Diaper and bath time have finally become more peaceful. Around six weeks Kaelin started to embrace his bath time, and he does not scream during diaper changes anymore. Well, just as long as he is not sleepy, or just waking up.
-At six weeks Kaelin started making cooing sounds, and he now tries to play with his toys by batting the toys hanging down. Kaelin also likes to watch television now.

-During nap time, I transitioned him to his crib to sleep, and he cannot tell the difference. Prayerfully once I move him to his crib permanently at night, he will do just as good. But I am not ready for that just yet.
-White noise works wonders for Kaelin when he gets upset, and we use it while he sleeps as well
-AT seven weeks I noticed Kaelin is starting to drool from time to time.
-Kaelin wears 0-3 month clothes. At seven weeks, he started to really fill into them, and he is out of the size zero shoes, and into a size one.

5 week Check Up
Kaelin had his five week check up January 3, 2013. At five weeks he was 21.5in. and 10lbs. His doctor said he was just under 50% for his height, and just over 50% for his weight. His head circumference was 14.5in. He was also given his hep B shot, and did not like it, I felt so bad for my baby. Kaelin had a tad bit of cradle cap on the top edges of his head, and we were given the proper steps to how to take care of it.
1 MONTH
My baby boy is 1 month!
The last four weeks with him in my life, have truly been amazing. Oh how I love him! The motherhood transition was not hard, and I
love being a mother. Kaelin loves his
sleep at night, so of course he has helped me out. At night, he will wake up once which is
usually between 5-5:30 am to be changed.
After that, it is back to sleep he goes till around 9am. Kaelin still is not a fan of diaper changes,
or baths. He gets extremely upset! Not only does he scream loud, but also he
likes to pull his hair and grab at his face, whenever he is given a bath, or a
diaper change. It is defiantly a fight
with him around those times. My dad says
Kaelin just wants to be like the boy from Charlie Brown lol. You know the smelly friend? I pray not, my son cannot be the smelly
boy! Many people I have spoke with that
also have infants said they went through the same, and he will start to get use
to it.
Kaelin had started to fill out his newborn clothes around
Christmas. He more fits the length
out. He is now wearing 0-3 months, and
of course has lots of room to grow.
Kaelin loves, I mean loves to see what is going on around him! He is extremely attentive, which he has been
since birth. He will look all around a
room. Do not let there be people around
when it is time for him to take a nap, or go to bed, because he will not go to
sleep. I learned that Christmas
Eve. He was three weeks old, and we had
company even before the gathering started.
He skipped his nap that he usually takes, and stayed up until 1am. I was amazed at how attentive he was.
